There are two things I absolutely adore...wait...that's a lie.
I adore a TON of things.
But the two that happen to be on my mind at this particular moment are crafting and travel. I have the travel bug something awful. I LOVE going new places, whether it's a new city, a national or state park, a new river, a new state...or even just stopping in at a coffee shop I've never been to and trying it out. I. Love. Traveling.
I love watching the weather change while you're driving across the country. I love stopping every few hours to pee and coming out of the gas station with five new souveniers from some town you'll forget the name of until a stranger mentions it months or years later. I love being covered in maps, stopping at mom and pop shops, watching the cities change on my phone's GPS, and...of course...
Going to yarn and fiber shops.
I don't really like to shop, per se - spending money freaks me out a bit if it isn't carefully budgeted. I've always been very, very broke (a consequence of doing a bit too much animal rescue and having a few too many hobbies). However...if the money is set aside intentionally...I absolutely love bringing back mugs, fiber, spindles, crochet hooks, knitting needles, charcoal, sketchbooks, paints, mugs, lighters...
STUFF...
back from other places!
Also I'm a spinner. I crochet and knit, too, but spinning is a huge passion. I have a Kromski wheel and a large collection of spindles, with everything from Turkish to top and bottom whorls, to shafts that broke long ago and now just get used for lightweight stuff, to chopstick spindles, and even mini spindles for my much-beloved lace spinning. I'm also addicted to luxury fibers.
Ahem.
Understatement.
Anyways, almost a year ago for my honeymoon, my husband took me to a fiber shop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and blew my mind. I hadn't expected a spinnery right in the middle of a tourist spot, but there it was! With a CASE full of luxury softness!! I got my spinning fix on the honeymoon and have been positively itching for another trip since.
Unfortunately, most of my travel has been in the 2-3 hour range, due to limited funds, recent tragedies, and working a lot of overtime between a few jobs. Now that itch has to be scratched...and I'm planning a couple of trips for the winter season.
Therefore, it seems only right to start up a blog about it to share the adventures, yeah? I'll share pictures, fiber talk, other arts and crafts (I also draw, paint, write, cook, bake, garden...everything honestly), adventures, awesome shops, and as much as I remember to. Maybe I can find some nifty little widget or something to show where in the states I am, yeah?
Nice to meet you!
